Chickens on the Freeway – The Demos

In 2009-2010, J Roth created the fourteen songs that would comprise the musical score for J.B. Eckert’s Chickens in a Freeway. As part of the process he put together demos of all the songs for J.B. to hear and suggest edits. This album is a collection of the final editions of those demos which were later shared with the cast of the show to help them prepare their parts.

Part of the reason they’re being presented here is that some of these songs seem to have a special charm when left unadorned by supporting instruments and vocalists.

For the most part, these renditions are remarkably close in lyrical content and flow to those found on the cast album. One exception is How We Do News which had an extra minute or so excised from its climatic end.
