Lyrics: Ship in a Bottle, Part 2

Hooked Up in a Rainbow (Lover)

Red glow… oh
(in that) Orange pose… woah
(and those) Yell-oh-oh-oh-ows
(this) Rain-bow… I’m hooked

Colors stream
I am out of my head
And I’m waltzing
Don’t tell me now this is all

Bliss gone amiss, I can’t resist the mist left to us by this un-forecasted rainfall

Green grows… oh
(and the) Blue flows… oh
(and those) In-di-go-oh-oh-ohs
(this) Rainbow… yeah, we’re hooked

Colors stream
And we’re out of our heads
And we’re waltzing
Don’t tell us it’ll soon be gone

‘Cause your sage song’s a baying hound
Chasing us down as we’re trying to escape our
Senses our fences seemed so senseless
So we pulled them down
Now defenseless the doubts press in
And spin us in and out of a

Love or confusion is this an illusion or real?
Love or confusion is this an illusion or real?
Love or confusion is this an illusion or real?

And they tell us how it is all
They tell us how it is all
And you tell me now it is all just
Bliss gone amiss but how to resist the glowing mist left to us by this… un-forecasted…
Rainfall

Purple…
Now purple… is all we have left

Sorcerer’s Ice (Creator/Magician)

I found a well
And what I pulled up in the pail… was… well…
A kind of water capped with a blaze of frost a maze of ice
I had to look twice thrice I could not remove my eyes
And I got lost inside

I threw some of that water on a tree See? What beauty
I poured some onto the street look there it’s right beneath your feet
I splashed some across the wall and that’s not all I even scrawled some all
Into this book come on, take a look
Why doesn’t anyone seem to want to see what I see?

Round and round in swirls of fiery ice
Prisms to open prisons with beams of light
And it’s right in plain sight
But round and round twirls everyone
Melting all the ice as they polish the sun
How come? I’m alone

I vaporized that ice look at the nice kites made of clouds… can see it now?
I sliced, diced, spliced and made icing and cake-knifed it all across the town
And how I did stick icicles upon the hips (and lips) of rainbows… just look at those
Frescos I’ve adorned across your precious screens… now at last do you finally see?
You still don’t see, do you? What I mean

Round and round in swirls of fiery ice
Prisms to unlock prisons with beams of light
And it’s right in plain sight
But round and round twirls everyone
Melting all the ice as they polish the sun
How come? I’m alone
And I’ve spun round and round, a dervish yes, I’ve become
And still of my dish the world will have none

And I’m cold growing numb getting old regretting more than some
Of the time taken from the ones who cared for the man if not his icy
Dreams and so it seems the ice has become the means of replacing what might have been

When the world cares not a jot for the icy lightning in a jar you’ve caught
And you feel you’re a hack peddling knickknacks and you’ve lost track of the wax
And the wane of the flame you try to tame by putting it in a gallery frame
Should you sigh ‘oh, well’ and seal the well? No, you tell yourself
You’re too good for Heaven and… too bad for Hell

And so from the well you pull pail after pail and you load your airship from head to tail
And you start to sail, covering roads and trails and hills and fields and vale
With your ice and still it won’t suffice
And you drop it in the sea and watch as it’s transforming

And like Vonnegut’s ice-nine you’ve frozen the sea for all time
And you’ve crossed that line where beauty becomes grotesque
And unless you find a way to melt that ice in your veins
Your reign it will end… it will end as it began

Yeah, so you found a well…
And you can’t stop pulling up pail after pail
And it’s up to your ankles, it’s up to your waist
It’s up to your neck now, how does it taste?

Satchel of Shadow (Magician/Creator)

Leaves in streams watched by willows Waterfalls misting rainbows
All go into my shadow
Nestling words poetry and prose Youthful faces in old photos
All are stowed in my shadow In my satchel of shadow

Flowers wild melting snow Butterflies ‘pon the meadow
All go into my shadow
Creased postcards, letters, mementos Maps and charts of distant shores
All are stowed in my shadow In my satchel of shadow

See my collection here my recollection is not clear
Of why I crowd them inside
Black and white, shades of gray colors effaced, alchemy
Has made this brackish water from wine

Red sands weathered stone Sagebrush on the plateau
All go into my shadow
Stirring curves sensuous forms Desire’s dial in flesh and bone
All stowed in my shadow In my satchel of shadow

And there’s a hole in the seam that I won’t sew up
I keep hoping the whole thing will split apart
I’d turn the whole thing upside down and empty it out
But then these things return to color and I just can’t be about

See my recollection is growing clear of why I put these things in here
Of why I stash them away
Black and white, shades of gray numb the pain but still leave a trace
Of the grace that refused my chains

And there’s a break in the seam that I won’t sew up
I keep hoping the whole damn thing will finally burst apart
I’d turn the whole thing upside down and dump it all out
But when these things return to color I just can’t be about
So I’m lugging this satchel around cramming more in every day
If I could I’d stop myself from seeking the beauty…
This beauty All this beauty… that none can keep

Real Eyes to Cry (2nd Passageway)

Daybreak comes there’s a split in the sky
The color’s wrong and I wonder why
The morning sun won’t even try
To dry the blighted streaks
‘Crossing the keepsakes of better times

Midday comes and I join everyone
Sitting down to a feast of crumbs
Hedging bets on a kingdom to come
And we’re done looking under the rug
For what was shoved
When we were dreaming of
A love that defied the divide
The compromise was applied
Is it too late now to realize?

We need real eyes to cry
Real eyes to cry

Nighttime comes with a starless sky
Streetlights gam with harlot shine
Shadows lift the veil on the prize
And the guise
It’s seen for what it’s always been
The sheen…
That’s screening…
The void… I avoid
By pumping out the plasma and filling my veins
With the liquid crystal life blood of an android

Real eyes to cry
I want back my real eyes to cry
We need real eyes to cry
Real eyes to cry
Real eyes to cry
Real eyes to cry
